چکیده

We introduce the tracer mass estimator. This is a new and simple way to estimate the enclosed mass from the projected positions and line of sight velocities of a tracer population (such as globular clusters, halo stars and planetary nebulae). Like the projected mass estimator, it works by averaging (projected distance)× (radial velocity)/G over the sample. However, it applies to the commonest case of all, when the tracer population does not follow the overall dark matter density. The method is verified against simulated datasets drawn from Monte Carlo realisations of exact solutions of the collisionless Boltzmann equation and applied to the recent M31 globular cluster data set of Perrett et al. (2002), as well as to M31’s satellite galaxies. Subject headings: galaxies: general – galaxies: haloes – galaxies: kinematics and dynamics –galaxies: individual: M31 – dark matter

On Presentation a new Estimator for Estimating of Population Mean in the Presence of Measurement error and non-Response

Introduction According to the classic sampling theory, errors that are mainly considered in the estimations are sampling errors.  However, most non-sampling errors are more effective than sampling errors in properties of estimators. This has been confirmed by researchers over the past two decades, especially in relation to non-response errors that are one of the most fundamental non-immolation...

Empirical Bayes Estimators with Uncertainty Measures for NEF-QVF Populations

The paper proposes empirical Bayes (EB) estimators for simultaneous estimation of means in the natural exponential family (NEF) with quadratic variance functions (QVF) models. Morris (1982, 1983a) characterized the NEF-QVF distributions which include among others the binomial, Poisson and normal distributions. In addition to the EB estimators, we provide approximations to the MSE’s of t...

Some Improvment in the Estimation of Population Mean in Cluster Sampling

Gupta and Shabbir (2008) have suggested an alternative form of ratio-type estimator for estimating the population mean. In this paper, we introduced new estimators by mixing two, stratified and cluster sampling method. Then we improved these estimators by using auxiliary variables and introducing new estimators. For sampling in infinite populations with a high geographic dispersion, the populat...

Measuring the slopes of mass profiles for dwarf spheroidals in triaxial CDM potentials

We generate stellar distribution functions (DFs) in triaxial haloes in order to examine the reliability of slopes Γ ≡ ∆logM/∆logr inferred by applying mass estimators of the formM ∝ Reσ 2 (i.e. assuming spherical symmetry, where Re and σ are luminous effective radius and global velocity dispersion, respectively) to two stellar sub-populations independently tracing the same gravitational potenti...

Measuring the slopes of mass profiles for dwarf spheroidals in triaxial cold dark matter potentials

We generate stellar distribution functions (DFs) in triaxial haloes in order to examine the reliability of slopes ≡ log M/ log r inferred by applying mass estimators of the form M ∝ Reσ 2 (i.e. assuming spherical symmetry, where Re and σ are luminous effective radius and global velocity dispersion, respectively) to two stellar subpopulations independently tracing the same gravitational potentia...
